Kumon celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2018

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the company’s founding, Kumon will further contribute to the global community.

The Kumon Method was born from a parent’s love for a child

It started with Toru Kumon, a high school math teacher at the time, who created learning materials for his son. He wrote out calculation problems on loose-leaf paper. The materials that he created became the prototype for today’s Kumon worksheets.

Global broadening

Kumon offers learning opportunities to many different generations beyond national boundaries. What supports Kumon’s current broadening is the passion of its instructors, staff, and all the people involved with Kumon, who wish to discover the potential of each individual and develop his or her ability to the maximum.

Evolving and deepening of learning

Both instructors and staff continue “learning from children.” Furthermore, Instructors Conferences are held at national and international levels for instructors to share their instruction skills with one another. Through such mutual learning, Kumon keeps evolving its learning materials and instruction methods.

Circulation of knowledge

All the people involved with Kumon around the world continuously share, accumulate, and utilize knowledge to evolve further.

60th anniversary logo

The design of Kumon’s 60th anniversary logo is based on three main concepts: “global broadening,” “evolving and deepening of learning,” and “circulation of knowledge.” The logo conveys Kumon’s passion for the future.
