Kumon’s Goal

To contribute to solving social issues on a global scale
through the Kumon Method

Since its founding, Kumon has long practiced its educational approach with the hope that children will develop not only strong academic abilities but also the capacity to learn independently. With unwavering belief in the potential of every individual student, we seek to identify each child’s “just-right level,” and provide the optimal learning materials and instruction to help them fully realize their abilities. Originally devised by a father for his own child, the Kumon method has now spread to over 60 countries and regions worldwide.

Today, the philosophy and practices of the Kumon Method are embraced by people of all ages, from infants to the elderly. In an era often described as the “100-year life,” we sense growing societal expectations of the Kumon Method, which is designed to support learning throughout one’s entire life. We will continue to refine the Kumon Method by gaining insights from our students and through ongoing practice, striving to contribute even more to society.

Kumon is also committed to addressing challenges within the international community. The United Nations has established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to eradicate global poverty and create a sustainable world, with Goal 4 focusing on “Quality Education.” Education is one of the most critical issues in achieving a sustainable society. Kumon has long practiced the Kumon Method of education, which helps students realize their full potential. We are proud that this educational activity serves as a clear example of “Quality Education.”

Even today, many children around the globe remain beyond the reach of Kumon study through our efforts alone. Moreover, in some countries and regions, circumstances make it difficult to place adequate emphasis on education. Another of the SDGs, Goal 17, is “Partnerships for the Goals.” In order to contribute, even in a small way, to addressing the social issue of educational inequality, we aspire to offer the Kumon Method in collaboration with trusted partners.

Now, under our medium-term business policy, New Growth 2030, we are embarking on new challenges toward the future. Through the practice of the Kumon Method, we aim to be widely recognized and deeply trusted by families, educational institutions, and society, as both a provider of the joy of learning and the feeling of growth for every individual and a contributor to solving social issues through community-based learning. To “inherit” the philosophy of our founder, Toru Kumon, and to “evolve” it for the future—this is the mission entrusted to us.

At a time when the demand for better education continues to grow, we will continue to move forward each day with a strong sense of responsibility and mission. We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and support for Kumon.
