Kumon’s Mission
By discovering the potential of each individual
and developing his or her ability to the maximum,
we aim to foster sound, capable people
and thus contribute to the global community.
Since its founding in 1958, Kumon has supported the learning of countless children and encouraged their growth over the past 68 years.
Through the Kumon Method, we aim to nurture independent individuals who can unlock their potential and thrive in society by helping each child not only develop their academic abilities but also acquire the mindset and skills for self‑learning.
Today, Kumon Centers have expanded not only throughout Japan but also to more than 60 countries and regions worldwide. Naturally, approaches and values related to education and child-rearing vary greatly across countries and regions, and even among individual families.
Yet, even amid such diversity, I believe there are two key reasons why KUMON has been widely embraced around the world.
The first is a shared belief in the learning method that cultivates essential abilities not only for the present but also for the future. The second is the fact that we have been able to work side by side with many dedicated Kumon Instructors around the world who share and support the thinking behind Kumon.
Amid increasing diversity in lifestyles, the rapid expansion of ICT, and the rise of AI, values in the fields of education and educational services are being challenged and powerful waves of transformation are beginning to sweep across the globe.
Even in these times of significant change, we will continue to take on the challenge of advancing the unchanging value of “discovering and developing the potential of children in any environment.”
I firmly believe that what enables children attending Kumon Centers to continue learning while feeling their daily growth is, above all, the tremendous support of their parents who watch over them with warmth and encouragement.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to express my deepest respect and sincere gratitude for your dedication and passion for education.
We remain committed to living up to the trust placed in us by both children and their parents.
Now, in this era of change, we have set forth our medium-term business policy, New Growth 2030, through which we seek further growth for the future while valuing our history. The subtitle “Breakthrough as One Kumon” embodies our determination to unite as one, bringing together Kumon staff, Instructors, and partners around the world to create new value and break through various barriers in pursuit of solutions to educational and social issues.
As the saying goes, “Education is a hundred-year endeavor,” and its outcomes cannot be measured solely by exam results or academic scores.
Believing in one’s own abilities and potential, facing challenges with resilience, and continuing to move forward toward one’s dreams and goals—by nurturing individuals who will grow into leaders of the next generation in this way, we will fulfill our mission to contribute to society.
